A quick overview:
These are two movements amongst the Christian right that are particularly disturbing. The Patriarchy Movement says that husband is head of the wife, and thus has all authority over her, and any children they have. This is based on scriptures from the bible. It denies women the right to make their own choices in life, and to live with those choices. It gives husbands and fathers the right to make decisions for wives and even adult female children.
The movement claims that daughters should not be independent, that they are under the authority of their fathers until they marry then they are under the authority of their husbands.Remember this is 2012, not the nineteenth century, and this movement is teaching young girls and single women to forgo university and outside employment in favour of training as “keepers at home” until they marry. It encourages women to have child after child (the Quiverfull) as god said to go forth and multiply. Marriage is encouraged at a young age, and women are taught from birth that this is their only choice, marriage and homemaking.Girls and women are being robbed of choice, instructed in being second class citizens, her wants, needs and dreams are not taken into account, many are home-schooled, so to keep any outside influence to a bare minimum.
This is a basic human rights issue, women and girls are being denied their rights to fulfil their lives the way they want to. It is indeed slavery.
