I recently read two stories that amazed me. Two young women who stood up against the odds, and achieved amazing things, and at such young ages.
They exhibited bravery, and a maturity beyond their years.
The first is Laura Dekker. At the age of 15 she set out and singlehandedly sailed around the world. I am in awe of this young girl, the physical strength she must have had, let alone the emotional stamina to spend so much time alone, to be able to cope with whatever the sea through at her.
The second young lady did not set out to do anything, but decided to point out a wrong, and the fall out for her and her family was immense. Not many outside of the USA would have heard of Jessica, but she and her family has been the focus of much hate and condemnation in her community and beyond. Why? Because she stood up and told her school board that they were breaking the law, the USA constitution, but having a prayer banner hung at the school.
What makes some people able to do great things? To be brave against such odds? For … it was her dream, her life had prepared her for that moment, her parents and others believed in her, and gave her the ability to follow her dream.
For Jessica it was an accident, in the sense it was not planned, she did not set out to take on the school, that the state and finally then nation. She saw something that was wrong, pointed it out and stood her ground. That’s all. She stood her ground.
Which one are you?
Have you a dream you are going to step out and follow? Or will you stand your ground against injustice, inequality and unfairness.
Two amazing young women
