Forced to marry

A woman is raped, sent to jail for 12 years because she had sex outside of marriage (as if this was a choice), then was offered a ‘pardon’ if she married her rapist. A life sentence of being married to the person who raped you? This is a pardon, the alternative to 12 years in prison?
This is so wrong on so many levels. To be forced to marry, to live with the man who raped you, is a massive violation of a person’s human rights. I don’t often get so angry at things, but this, this is inhuman, brutish, appalling.
What type of religion, what type of god blames a woman for being raped? Where was the man punished for this? Does he not get what he wants? Someone to abuse again and again?  Are women so badly thought of, so unworthy of respect, that their feelings, their rights, their justice are just completely ignored?
All women everywhere need to fight injustice against women.  How is the question. I have struggled with this all my life, wanting to make a difference.  I try where ever I can,  I raise issues, where I can, I speak out where I can. I am still looking for that elusive  means to change the course of the world.  If we all look, someone will find it,  find one thing they can do, that will make a difference. All the differences will add up.  That’s my hope anyway.
